The Butler

In Lee Daniel's, The Butler was one of the better films I have viewed in awhile. In short, the film is about the life of Cecil Gaines who became a butler at the White House. He served eight presidents during his time at the White House, which coincided during the civil rights movement. The film portrayed the hardships African Americans had to endure during this time period and the their reactions to the racism. It was interesting to see how different reacted to their own hardships, for example Cecil's oldest son did not stand idly by, he became a radical and joined the infamous Black Panthers while Cecil suffered in silent always hoping for change. The film was a real eye opener especially to the younger generation who may not have been aware of how bad things where for different races during the civil rights movement.
